Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores - His Final Act - Beach Fight

I worked on the dynamic Horus foliage, environment art, and set dressing for the Horus beach fight in the main quest “His Final Act”. Working on this area presented some unique and interesting challenges. The environment played almost a secondary role here, making sure the Horus is always nicely framed on the player’s screen. The actual boss-arena had to be dressed pretty sparsely, while mostly using destructible game assets. Working within these limitations while making something visually interesting was quite a challenge. I also worked together with Gilbert Sanders on the dynamic foliage dressing on the back of the Horus. Due to his technical know-how, he was able to attach thousands of foliage assets to a massive, animated robot without tanking performance. Esther Zuidgeest and Marijn Giesbertz were also closely involved in this technical challenge. I also want to shout out Jelle van Scherpenzeel, who did an amazing job with the landscape and lava-dressing of the surrounding areas.
